MSC PRE-ASSESSMENT
An MSC pre-assessment is optional and designed to be an informative review to determine readiness to enter into a full assessment against the MSC Standard. A pre-assessment will identify the fishery's strengths and weaknesses in relation to the twenty-eight performance indicator's and allocate an approximate score for each, informing areas for improvement and the likelihood of meeting the MSC Standard.
If the pre-assessment suggests the fishery is a good candidate to meet the MSC Standard, the client could decide to move into the public full assessment process. If the pre-assessment reveals that the fishery does not yet meet the Standard, improvements can be undertaken before the commencement of a full assessment. Where the pre-assessment reveals that very significant improvements are required, the pre-assessment can become a good foundation for a Fishery Improvement Project.
There is no requirement for the pre-assessment report to be made public unless the fishery chooses to do so as part of a Fishery Improvement Project.
