MSC FISHERY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT: PRE-ASSESSMENT
For a fishery that does not yet meet the MSC Standard, a Fishery Improvement Project pre-assessment is the first step within the Fishery Improvement Project process. An assessment is conducted and a confidential report prepared, the results of which provide an opportunity to make improvements in an effort to achieve ongoing sustainable practices.
The MSC, Conservation Alliance and FisheryProgress.org require the pre-assessment to be conducted by an MSC accredited Conformity Assessment Body or a qualified MSC technical consultant. If the pre-assessment is not conducted by one of these entities, a qualified Conformity Assessment Body is required to review the pre-assessment.
bio.inspecta undertakes Fishery Improvement Project pre-assessments and can also review a pre-assessment developed by an alternative technical consultant.
bio.inspecta is qualified and experienced in Needs Assessments and Rapid Assessment Tool processes, which are the starting assessment for basic Fishery Improvement Projects. These assessments are designed to identify environmental challenges facing the fishery.
